How do I upgrade windows XP on a blank hard disk?

I have Windows Full edition on a pirated disk, but i was wondering
when the set up asks you to put the previous editions in the cd drive, do I leave it IN and let it continue the set up? Or do I take it out and put the upgrade disk back in once it has confirmed the previous edition?

lets assume you have a legal windows xp upgrade disk, and you want to use this to install a fresh copy of windows xp.
first you would pop in the legal windows xp upgrade disk and boot the computer it will at some point ask you to prove you own an eligible OS by inserting the media, at this point you put in some other lesser version windows and click OK/next, after that it should ask you to reinsert your original CD, at this point you would insert your original CD, and click OK/next, and continue your installation.

one note you need to use a lesser version of windows to verify eligibility, if you use a newer version you may confuse things. if you use a bootleg to verify you are asking for trouble. i use an old windows 98 CD for that
